2019

With a mission to fight climate change, a group of inventors, engineers, tinkerers and outdoor enthusiasts came together five years ago to form Skyhook Solar Corp. and invent the Solar Station. After a year of development and prototyping, the team deployed the first two public-facing Solar Stations in Denver, Colorado in November of 2019.

2020

In January 2020, Skyhook deployed 10 Solar Stations at the ESPN Winter X-Games (left), deployed a Solar Station to charge EVs at an Aspen public school in April (middle) and deployed four Solar Stations in the Navajo Nation (right) that fall during the pandemic.

2021

In June of 2021, in partnership with WE-cycle and PBSC Urban Solutions, Skyhook launched the first solar-powered ebikeshare docks in the world. This innovation allowed WE-cycle to power its e-bikes with 100% renewable energy, incorporate more ebikes into their fleet, furthering their mission of carbon neutral transportation by keeping ebike operations sustainable. That summer and fall the network powered 52 ebikes and saw a total of 15,238 rides; including an estimated carbon sequestration (GHG reduction) of 14,000 lbs.

Skyhook expanded its EV charging presence with two deployments in Colorado, including at the Colorado Rocky Mountain School and Snowmass Town Park. Skyhook Solar Stations continue to sustainably charge EVs today with Level X™ zero-emissions power.

2022

Building on the success of the WE-cycle pilot, Skyhook Solar Stations were deployed in five new locations in the Roaring Fork Valley of Colorado in 2022. The expanded network included a total of seven Skyhook Solar Stations. In the biggest year for Skyhook in micromobility to date – the team delivered Solar Stations to Chicago IL (right), Montreal, Canada, and Detroit, MI (left). Skyhook’s pilot of our new battery charge locker technology completed its first full year of public testing. Our decentralized, solar-powered system works in subfreezing temperatures and mitigates against battery fire risk.

2023

As of 2023, Solar Stations now operate in ten cities in North America and Europe, providing power to micromobility fleets and EVs, and resilient, backup power in cities and remote areas. This summer Skyhook deployed a D4 Solar Station in Germany to charge to mopeds and a new K2 flat-pack Solar Station to the front lines in Ukraine to support people in need of power during wartime grid outages.

Skyhook’s Solar Charging Stations for micromobility perform during the darkest, coldest times of the year

DETROIT | JANUARY 12, 2023

Skyhook Solar, a pioneer of clean energy solutions, today announced the successful launch of a Skyhook Solar Station to power MoGo Detroit’s new e-charging bikeshare station. The deployment is the first of its kind for MoGo’s ebikes, advancing Michigan’s vision for a vibrant, connected community with a range of mobility options.

Skyhook’s solar charging components have proven successful in even the darkest and coldest times of the year when other solar solutions fall short. Skyhook’s success speaks to the potential for micromobility to perform as a carbon-neutral transportation solution amidst a range of weather conditions. With the successful launch of this partnership, Skyhook’s Solar Stations have now been incorporated into five systems in North America.

“The switch to more sustainable modes of transportation will require charging infrastructure that performs across weather conditions and is not grid-dependent,” said Skyhook Solar CEO Daniel Delano. “With our Detroit launch, we’ve proven that implementing the necessary charging infrastructure for micromobility fleets need not be labor-intensive or costly for cities and municipalities preparing for a more sustainable future.”

Skyhook is at the forefront of the micromobility revolution as cities continue to grapple with transportation challenges in the wake of growing city populations and climate change. High-performance eco-friendly solutions for charging micromobility fleets and electric vehicles will be critical in addressing these challenges, and Skyhook Solar Stations have proven successful in a great range of locations.

“Adding Skyhook’s solar e-charging station to our system continues to solidify MoGo as a leader in micromobility,” said Adriel Thornton, Executive Director of MoGo. “Bikeshare as a mode of transportation is already sustainable in a number of ways; adding emissions-less infrastructure will only advance our sustainability efforts.”

Skyhook Solar’s modular, movable solar generators are uniquely designed to provide access to power without the expense and long lead time of grid-tied charging infrastructure. The Skyhook platform is designed to be installed in hours in both remote areas and cities. The Solar Station’s unique bifacial panel design delivers more energy with less maintenance — an ideal feature to cut bike share operating costs.

MoGo’s vision is to ensure that all people in Metro Detroit have access to equitable and reliable transportation. With ebikes that are ridden three times more often than our standard pedal bikes, charging stations are vital to MoGo’s growth and success, as they keep ebikes charged without removing them from the system. With the addition of Skyhook’s station, our vision for the future continues to be realized.

Funding for MoGo's Skyhook station was made possible by a grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC).

About Skyhook Solar

Skyhook Solar is the leader in clean energy solutions for charging electric vehicles and micromobility fleets, including ebikes and scooters. Our standalone Solar Stations generate plug-and-play power practically anywhere – whether there’s grid infrastructure or not. Deployed without permitting or site construction, Skyhook Solar Stations can be rolled out fast and at scale to not only deliver EV and micromobility charging solutions but also to bring broadband internet to places where it currently does not exist. At Skyhook, we envision a future where everyone has access to sustainable and carbon-neutral utilities that facilitate a more sustainable and equitable planet. We’re on a mission to make that vision a reality. Skyhook Solar is proudly based in Carbondale, CO. Learn more at: https://www.skyhooksolar.com/
